U.S. Army Surplus
This drawstring bag was used to store personal belongings in case of injury or death in the battlefield.
It was called a Patients Effect Bag until the Vietnam War, and was renamed Personal Effect Bag after the 1960s.
There are two types: a large type with a waterproof pocket inside and a small type with a content label and no pocket. This is the small type.
What makes this bag particularly rare is the inscription U.S. ARMY MEDICAL DEPARTMENT and the stamp U.S. ARMY HOSPITAL SAIGON 1968, indicating that it was used at a U.S. Army hospital in Saigon.
While smaller types from recent years are relatively easy to find, this one with the inscription, likely used only at a hospital in Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War, is extremely rare.
Deadstock, brand new and unused.
No notable damage except for age-related wear.
The drawstring has never been tied.
External dimensions: 26 x 19
Bottom diameter: 16
