While most deck jackets are made of thick jungle cloth cotton, this jacket uses a very rare rayon cotton fabric.
The rayon cotton fabric, which is tightly woven with a good density, is excellent for windproof and waterproof properties, and was used as rainwear such as raincoats from the 1940s to the 1950s.
For deck crews who were forced to carry out their duties even in harsh conditions, exposed to bad weather on board aircraft carriers, a jacket that could withstand some rain and seawater was a necessity.
